That’s right. I’ve had this site going for exactly five years now. It’s been full of laughs, tears and mostly full of crap, but it’s been fun. For the last year or so, I’ve really cut down my participation and let you visitors manage on your own, occasionally throwing in something to keep the pulse going.
I never figured this site would ever take off, or attract as much attention as it has in the past. And even though those days are long gone, I still to this day get thousands of hits every month, so what’s going on? Sure, some of you are still following old links to the Habbo and Cash Money posts from a couple of years ago, but I killed those pages months ago when the comments broke triple digits. Yet, you keep coming. For whatever reason, you’re here…thanks for dropping by! Five years and going strong! Sort of…
As always, it’s fun to take a look back, even just five years ago and see what’s changed. Like what, you ask? Just browse through this site and you’ll see. While this has mostly been my take on the world, including my own life, it’s really interesting to see if you remember all the minutiae that managed to build up. When you think about it, five years isn’t really that long (unless you’re in prison), but so much can happen.
Remember back in 1999 when “The Matrix” and “Fight Club” hit? That was madness. But of course, that was countered with the disappointments of “The Phantom Menace” and to a lesser degree “Eyes Wide Shut”. According to Billboard, most of you were listening to Will Smith’s “Wild Wild West” because of course, the movie was released on the Fourth of July, which if it weren’t such an important national holiday, I’d consider renaming to Will Smith Day. “I, Robot” anyone? Well it was either that or Destiny’s Child or Christina Aguilera or Jennifer Lopez…or Pearl Jam. What’s wrong with this picture that Pearl Jam is nowhere to be seen these days (yes, I know they’re still around), but the gals who “shake the booty” are still at it?
I know none of us could have predicted how the world would change just two years later, but since then we’ve all had to reevaluate our lives and what’s really important and some have even made sacrifices beyond compare. Such is the weary world we live in today.
Even though this site originally began with the notion of some sort of weird celebration of my heart attack, I’ve moved on, discovering a new truth and a new meaning to life. Everything I have today, everything I am today, was foreign to me five years ago. The fact that this site retains its name is mostly due to two simple facts: 1) I’m entrenched, with the programming and design so developed that a changed like a new domain would require more time than I’m able to spend and 2) I don’t have any other ideas of what to call it or what to make it.
So attack22.com keeps on truckin’ down that road. Who knows what’ll happen in another five years…
