Pacino and De Niro – The Conversation

August 31st, 2008

An interesting examination of the classic-but-all-too-short scene between Pacino and De Niro in Heat. To this day, that film is still one of my all-time faves, and I’ll probably do a rare double-dip when it comes out on Blu-ray someday.

LOST Kubricks, Ratios and Mystery Figures

August 30th, 2008

Here are some new details about LOST kubricks coming to the US soon, including cast members Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Locke, Sayid, Desmond, Charlie and Ben. Time to start saving up!

At the Movies begins anew

August 28th, 2008

Here’s the line-up of reviews that will start off the new Siskel-less, Ebert-less, Roeper-less season of “At the Movies” with new hosts Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz: Burn After Reading, Babylon A.D., Traitor and Hamlet 2. Also of note is that the now ubiquitous “thumbs up/down” reviews are replaced with a new age, more-prone-to-bullshit “see it/skip it/rent it” system.

23 awesome license plates

August 25th, 2008

A fine collection of 23 awesome license plates for computer geeks. I’m particularly fond of “FFFFFF” with the matching ride. Also, note an appearance by Darren from Darren Dishong’s Drive Home.

Obama/Biden 2008

August 24th, 2008

Obama/Biden 2008. Now there’s a combination I think I can get behind. I’ve always been a great admirer of Joe Biden and his “to-the-point” way of conducting business and can’t help but wonder how effective he could be in executive office. In other words, I’m down for some of that.

Yup, that’s where I’m working these days. Yowza!

Subscriber’s pleas fall upon dead ears

August 20th, 2008

blechEarlier today, I happened across this post at dannychoo.org where Len-Vesper goes on about his “internet battle” with PiQ and how the magazine is closing its doors. Well, while I don’t remember hearing about or witnessing any “battle” and the magazine actually closed down two months ago, that’s hardly the focus of his tirade.

Like many others, Len-Vesper is actually more upset about the messy transition from Newtype USA to PiQ and how subscriptions were handled.

As I read on, I considered leaving a comment on his blog post here, but since I’ve never written at length about it and I got kinda wordy, I just thought I’d post it here on my own site.

Eight years down

August 19th, 2008

As of today, it’s been eight years since Carol and I were married. In that time, we’ve done a lot with our life together that I never really considered or even thought possible, and I love her just as much today as I did that day eight years ago.

We’re not the perfect couple like these folks, but we do all right, if I do say so myself. Of course, I certainly wouldn’t have guessed eight years ago that I’d be in such a good place in my life without this wonderful woman by my side.

To my wife and the mother of my two children: I love you.

The Polar Express on DVD…in 3-D!

August 19th, 2008

I’d never seen The Polar Express before this past Christmas, but once I did, I was pleasantly surprised with it. Now we’ll be able to enjoy it all over again when it comes to DVD/Blu-ray on October 28…in 3D!
